Dr. Soumitra Basu, MBBS., D.P.M., M.D, (Psychiatry) was the Project director of a drug detoxification and counselling centre sponsored by the Central Ministry of Welfare; a consultant psychiatrist to the Dept. of Home (Jails), Govt. of West Bengal; consultant to Alakendu Bodh Niketan (an institute for the mentally handicapped); an Hon. child psychiatrist in the child guidance clinic, Calcutta; and a research scholar in the ‘Multi-centered study of drug abuse among students’; a project of the Central Ministry of Welfare.
Dr. Basu has divided his time between Calcutta and Pondicherry/Auroville, working to develop paradigms in health and psychology based on Sri Aurobindo’s perspective. He conducts workshops in India and abroad, is the author of ‘Integral Health’, and is the Editor of NAMAH. He is also one of the founders of SAIIIHR – the Sri Aurobindo International Institute of Integral Health and Research.
