Ashram & Auroville

Ashram & Auroville
Sri Aurobindo Ashram
In 1910, Sri Aurobindo withdrew from politics and dedicated himself to spiritual practice. Gradually, a number of disciples gathered round him, and in 1924 the Sri Aurobindo Ashram was officially founded, with the Mother left in charge.
The Mother simply stated that “The Ashram is a place for those who wish to serve the Divine.”
Auroville
Auroville, the City of Dawn, was founded by the Mother in 1968, at the age of 90 years old. Its purpose is to discover and work out in material life an ideal of human unity, “where all human beings of goodwill who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world and obey one single authority, that of the supreme Truth.”
