International Day of Yoga 2022

Happy Yoga Day!

Today is the 8th International Day of Yoga, since its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.

International Yoga Day is celebrated around the world every year on June 21st, the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, which is the day of greatest light in the year. It is on that day, according to ancient Indian lore that Shiva, the ādiyogācārya, or first teacher of Yoga, first taught the science of Yoga to his students.

On this day we celebrate the international treasure of Yoga, which is not just a regime of physical postures and exercises, but a diverse system of self-development and self-perfection for the mind, body and soul.

This year’s theme is: Yoga for Humanity, which has been chosen to highlight how yoga has helped to promote health and well-being and alleviate suffering during the global Covid-19 pandemic, as well as fostering compassion, kindness and the awareness of oneness around the world in the face of challenging circumstances.

This year is also remarkable as it marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, one of India’s greatest modern yogis and the founder of the Integral Yoga.

On this auspicious day we wish you lots of light from all of us at Auromere!
