Eminent scholar in ancient Indian thought and the philosophy of Sri
Aurobindo, and Chairman of the Institute of Human Study, the late Prof.V.
Madhusudan Reddy (1926-1996) distinguished himself by a life of complete
dedication to the vision of Sri Aurobindo. An exceptionally gifted
intellectual and idealist who founded and steered many institutions, Prof. Reddy
would be remembered for his varied attainments, especially for the boldness of
his vision for a New World.
Prof. Reddy was a distinguished scholar who excelled in works like Sri
Aurobindo's Philosophy of Evolution, Meta-History, The
Vedic Epiphany and Mankind on the March. He published more
than two hundred research papers on literature, philosophy and
spirituality. He travelled extensively on prestigious international
fellowships such as the UNESCO and the Fulbright to leading centres of learning
in the East and the West. Practically single handed, he worked for a
number of projects such as the Sri Aurobindo International School, the Institute
of Human Study, Aurodarshan, Matridarshan and Mankind on the March.
Prof. Reddy's nature was marked by a spirit of complete dedication and utter
humility. He had a natural gift for wit and humour and had a
largehearted approach to what life had to offer. He had the Darshan of Sri
Aurobindo and the Mother in 1949, an event that was a turning point in his
life. For him, philosophy was not just an intellectual proposition but an
approach to the divine.
