Medhananda's memory went back to the time when he chose his Mother before his physical conception. His childhood was protected and supported by a succession of totem animals and archetypes who saw to his psychological education. He learned English early from a nursemaid in addition to his Mother tongue, German, and later became fluent also in French, Latin and Greek. In 1993 he left his position as Junior Judge at the High Court of Frankfurt to escape the rise of Nazism in Germany. He went with his wife to Tahiti, then to its sister-island, Moorea, where they could buy 200 hectares of virgin forest, build a small house and establish themselves as farmers, cultivating vanilla and coffee. Their three children grew up in that paradise. In the radiant-silence of that forest Medhananda started to explore the levels of consciousness accessible to his self-awareness. In 1949 he wrote to Sri Aurobindo, who accepted him as a disciple. Medhananda joined the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in February 1952, where he became the librarian of the Sri Aurobindo library. He left his body in 1994.
