DOWSETT & JAYASWAL
Professor Norman C. Dowsett was born on the 9th October, 1908, at Richmond, Surrey, England. He was educated in England, France, Spain and Germany.
At the beginning of the Second World War, he joined the Royal Air Force, came to India, and was commissioned as an officer in Air Intelligence.
In 1942, he met Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry and three years later became a permanent member of his Ashram, whose charge was also shared by the Mahayogi’s spiritual companion, The Mother.
Norman Dowsett participated in the experiment of the Free Progress Education carried out in the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education where he taught for 25 years.
In 1970, The Mother gave him the task to start the education in the newly founded international township of Auroville.
In 1971, he took the directorship of the Department of Educational Research and Development of the Sri Aurobindo Society, where he is pursuing his research in education with a multinational team.
A prolific writer and poet, he is also the author of a Manifesto laying the bases of an ‘Academy of Future Man’ and the co-editor of an ‘Integral Education Series’ Review in Education.
